- To pass inspection and be eligible to participate your car must abide by the following specifications:
- Weight: car must not exceed 5.0 ounces. The pack has a scale, and it alone is the standard.
- Length: car must not be longer then 7 inches.
- Width: car must not be wider then 2 inches overall (the overall width includes the wheels).
- Ground clearance: bottom of car to track must be a minimum of 3/8 inches in order to clear the guide rails of the track.
- Width between inside wheels must be at least 1 inches to fit the track.
- Dry lubrication only. You may not use any oil based lubricant. Oil based lubricants can leave residue on the track that is why we ban them.
- Energy Sources: No force other than gravity may contribute to the forward motion of the car.
- The majority material for the body/structure of the car must be made of pinewood.
- Integrity: All parts of the car must be in their proper position when the car crosses the finish line. It may not have parts that move with respect to other parts of the car when racing (no moving weights). Decorations or items that are loose and move back and forth are not to be confused with moving weights.
- Axles must not rotate.
- Handling of the cars by contestants will not be allowed during the race except for repairs as discussed in Rules #5 & 7 below.
- If a car breaks during a race, it may be repaired once. Wheels that fall off may be repaired as often as necessary. The race results where the problem occurred stands--do-overs (re-running of a heat) are at the Race Commissioner's discretion.
- If a contestant's car jumps the track without being interfered with by another car in the race, the jumped car loses that race. Race heats can be re-run at the discretion
of the Race Commissioner.
- If a contestant's car is damaged by another car which has jumped the track, or by an accident while being handled by Race Officials, the damaged car can be repaired with assistance and the car will be assigned to a later race. If the car is not repairable and unable to continue, the car will place last in any heats it is expected to race in.
- Standings will be based on the average time of all heats run.
- Tiebreaker Rules:
- Total points, bases upon finish order.
- Best results against common opponents.
- Strength of schedule.
- All decisions made by the Race Commissioner are FINAL.
Check-In/Weigh-In:
At the check-in your car will be inspected by the Race Commissioner to ensure the car has abided by all of the specifications. If your car passes inspection it will be impounded by the Race Commissioner until the race is over. No other alterations or adjustments to the car can be made once it has passed inspection and impounded by the Race Commissioner. Your car will be returned to you after the derby has been completed.
The check-in will be held on race day at Brown Elementary between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM.
Do not apply a car number using the stickers that come with the kits. A number will be assigned to your car after it passes inspection.
Race Day:
Opening round heats: Every car will run in 4 heats; once in each lane. The total number of heats that will be run will depend on the number of cars entered.
Grand Finale: Depending on the number cars entered will determine the number of cars that qualify for the grand finale.
